Beautiful antique French hand-colored engraving depicting two historic hunting dog types, identified beneath the images as “Le Chien courant” and “Le Chien courant métis.” In English, these translate to a scent hound / hunting hound and a mixed-breed hunting hound. The upper dog has the classic build of an early French scent hound, while the lower illustrates a heavier, rough-coated mixed hound. Both are wonderfully rendered with delicate period coloring.
Custom framed in a new gilt wood frame with new matting and museum glass, giving this antique engraving a polished, designer-ready presentation. A wonderful addition to a collection of antique canine or sporting art and beautiful displayed in a library, study, entry, or gallery wall. Overall framed size: 11 1/2” x 8 1/2”.
